What are the differences between laser hair removal, electrolysis and waxing? While all options are fantastic for both temporary and long term results, the type of patient that is a good candidate is the most important part in receiving the most ideal results. Laser hair removal provides patients with permanent hair reduction. The ideal person will have dark pigmented hair as the laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair. This is how it targets and damages the hair in its follicle. We recommend to shave a few days to a week prior to treatment. It is very important not to have any tan, including self-tanner, because the laser could pick up on the pigmentation in the skin and not just the hair and lead to the risks of pigment changes in the skin. We can treat patients with darker skin tones as long as the hair is darker than the skin. Generally, six treatments, done 4-6 weeks apart, are recommended for best results. This provides each phase of hair growth with more than one laser treatment.
